Friday 6/4- Have a nice weekend! No homework.

No RDJs due this week (See the Reading Dialogue Journals tab for the day your RDJ is due). If you are having trouble with Google Docs, PLEASE see me during homeroom or AC.

    Mrs. Thomas,

Andrew left his classroom contract at school today (Thursday). Is this something that I can come in and sign tomorrow (Friday)?

He states that you did not give him the bell work puzzle?

    Thank You,

      Hi Mr. Dale,

Andrew is correct. Core 4 was not assigned the bell work puzzle. Due to the school-wide assembly, core 4 was behind the other classes. I tried to get them caught up today, but did not require the class to create their own puzzle. Sorry for the confusion!

As far as the classroom contract, yes, you may come in tomorrow and sign Andrew’s contract. No problem!

If you have any futher questions, please feel free to contact me!

    Mrs. Thomas,

Please explain “writing territories and heart maps”

    Thank you,
    Gina Hager

When creating heart maps, I posed the question: “What is in your heart?” I showed students a couple of examples, including my own heart map. In my heart map, I included things that have shaped me into the person I am today. Not everything in your heart map will be positive. I included my great-grandma’s funeral. It wasn’t a happy time, but it definitely affected who I am today. I also included happy things: my husband, my son, coaching, cooking, memories of baking cookies with my grandma, etc… Other things you might include: good memories with family and/or friends, favorite books/genres that you enjoy, pets, sports you enjoy, hobbies, etc… I hope this helps!

Just like in reading workshop, students are given free choice to write about whatever topics they’d like to during writing workshop. We create reading territories for students to look back to if they can’t think of a topic to write about. They will create their territories from their heart maps.

I hope that helps. If you have any other questions, please let me know!

    Ms. Thomas,
Katherine was absent last Tues, Wed, And Thur due to illness. I’m trying to help her catch up on her missed work. What is the “Personal Survival List”? I don’t see anything like that in her stuff? Thank you very much.

You have RDJ #4 with a grade but RDJ #3 blank. No RDJ due this week but RDJ #5 due next week. Did Lauren miss one?

    • Mrs. Thomas said,

I do not have Lauren’s RDJ #3. Have her resend it or I’ll see if she can come during AC and resend it. Thanks

    Mrs. Thomas,

I missed school today – 11/12/09 – and my mom stopped by at school to get my homework. She told me that I was supposed to watch some kind of powerpoint on your website, but I can’t find it. Could you help me with that?
